This position exists to provide instructional and technical support to school districts and educators as they implement state science standards.

1. Provides leadership on education issues relevant to implementing programs, initiative and efforts that address PED Strategic Goals.
a. Provides leadership and direction for planning, developing, and implementing program activities involving science content.
b. Provides programmatic oversight for program budgets.
2. Utilizes current research and substantive knowledge of science education to provide leadership and direction in the implementation of science initiatives.
a. Administers the programs with emphasis on science according to all applicable PED regulations.
b. Prepares materials and presentations based on program plans and implementation strategies, aligned to the New Mexico
Instructional Scope and principles of multi-layered systems of supports and accelerated learning.
c. Participates in collaborative educational activities with external and internal partners with an emphasis on science to achieve the NM STEM Ready! Science Standards.
d. Facilitates meetings and interactions to ensure that program activities and efforts are effective, productive, and beneficial to all stakeholders.
e. Ensures that program requirements are met through adequate monitoring and regular reviews of program performance.
f. Supports a system of assessment, including the development of the state summative assessment for science.
3. Provides leadership and support to schools, districts, organizations, and individuals involved in science initiatives.
a. Plans and coordinates development of professional development content and implementation for teachers/administrators participating in the programs.
b. Develops appropriate policies and procedures, RFPs, RFAs/Applications, technical assistance materials, documents, and related program publications for the program.
This job serves constituents including educators, district/charter school administration and state and national partners on behalf
of the students of New Mexico.
Experience working at the classroom, school and district level leading science curriculum and instruction.
A successful candidate has either science classroom experience in the K-12 educational system or lead next generation science programming at the district-level.
Experience collaborating with other states to shape policy and implement science programs within the K-12 system.
Successful experience working in a team and accomplishing a variety of goals.
A successful candidate shows flexibility and can work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.
The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
