The Accounting Technician III position processes matching and direct accounts payable invoices for the Eastern Office of the Controller in Goldsboro for Cherry Hospital, O’Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, Caswell Center, Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, and Walter B. Jones. All accounts payable invoices are processed through the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS). The position also processes miscellaneous accounts receivable billing and serves as the backup to the personal funds coordinator.
Job responsibilities include the following:
- Review and accurately process matching and direct invoices by verifying transaction information and collaborating with the facility purchasing departments.
- Ensure requests have appropriate documentation, signatures and coding. Communicates with vendors via telephone or email.
- Analyze vendor statements and research issues to expedite payment.
- Maintain financial records by scanning and filing accounting documents.
- Process miscellaneous accounts receivable billing.
- Provide supporting documentation for audits and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Serve as the back up to the personal funds coordinator which includes processing invoice payments and recording receipts for patient’s personal funds in NCFS and Hearts personal funds system.
The Office of the Controller sets and interprets all accounting and financial reporting policies and procedures for the Department as authorized by the rules and regulations of the Office of the State Controller and state statutes and executes all accounting transactions for DHHS.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience working on general ledger accounts, journal entries, accounts payable experience, and reconciliations in a large governmental, healthcare or private enterprise setting.
- Proven experience interpreting financial information and apply departmental policies and procedures.
- Documented experience using customer service skills both orally and in writing.
- Experience with the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS)
Associate's degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in accounting
OR
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work
OR
