* This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 01, 2023.
Position is a Medical Director I located in the Mental Health Facility of the Central Prison Healthcare Complex (CPHC) in Raleigh, NC. The facility houses approximately 1318 close custody male offenders. The primary purpose for this position is to provide clinical, administrative and supervisory oversight for the inpatient/outpatient psychological program manager, psychiatrists, psychologists and clinical social workers. This position may also carry a caseload of mental health patients, consult with and collaborate, as needed, with inpatient medical facilities, have monthly consultations with DPS mental health managers for mental health services continuity with field units and serve as clinical and administrative supervisor for all inpatient/outpatient mental health care providers.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is MH27. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
* thorough knowledge of biological, social and psychological developmental processes at all ages
* thorough knowledge of the practice and theories of the medical specialty or subspecialty to which assigned to a wide range of medical, behavioral and psychological disorders
* skill in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders
* ability to assess and interpret laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient's condition
* the ability to plan, organize and accomplish goals across professional disciplines is required
* thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of inpatient and outpatient mental health medicine
* competency dealing with a variety of individuals including physicians, administrators and the general public is essential
MUST be Board Certified in Psychiatry.
Approved medical license from the State of NC Medical Board.
Experience in healthcare administration/management. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina AND three (3) years of experience including two (2) years in health services delivery management.
