What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician II (ERMY) position at State of North Carolina?

This position is assigned to the Eastern Regional Maintenance Yard and is stationed at Eastern CI.  
The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine and corrective maintenance task, and repairs ensuring that assigned systems within a Department of Adult Correction facility and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This position is required to perform at the journeyman level in the electrical trade. Position requires electrical trade skills that will allow him/her to perform multiple maintenance task. This position may service and repair electrical systems and controls and perform electrical repairs to lighting, building wiring, conduit, security fencing and equipment. Position may repair commercial kitchen equipment and make repairs to security and perimeter lighting. This position will be expected to supervisor the work of skilled and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members performing trades skills during preventive maintenance or other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary. Must have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to obtain an NC driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC)
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Demonstrated experience with installing, diagnostic troubleshooting, and or performing corrective/preventative maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment and systems.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
