SBI Victim Advocate
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Utah Department of Public Safety, State Bureau of Investigation(SBI) is looking for a Victim Advocate. This person will play an integral role in supporting witnesses and victims of crime by providing on-scene support and assistance through the criminal justice process.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Provide crisis intervention for witnesses and victims of crime
- Provide victims and their families with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations
- Conduct interviews to determine victim needs, and evaluate to make appropriate referrals
- Act as a facilitator in problem solving situations
- Provides information to those seeking assistance and suggests alternatives/solutions and assists others in solving problems
- Serve as liaison for victim with law enforcement and prosecutor
- Management of grants and programs related to victim services (e.g., VOCA and VINE)
- Deliver presentations to staff and general public, and create marketing, promotional, or interpretive materials
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Has effective interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
- Can communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely
- Can read and understand information presented in writing
- Has knowledge of applicable civil and criminal justice laws, rules, regulations, and/or policies and procedures
- Has the ability to coordinate the activities or tasks of people, groups, and/or organization(s) and deliver presentations or training using acceptable methods and techniques
- Can travel throughout the state, and is able to work variable hours as necessary to include an on-call rotation
- The incumbent will be required to reside within 50 miles of the Investigation Bureau Office (4501 South 2700 West, Taylorsville)
Preference may be given for those who have graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in Social or Behavioral Science or have equivalent work related experience.
