About the Team
The Data Management Division is a growing, client service-oriented team. We are business-centric working closely with the investment management and operational teams to anticipate and meet their complex information and reporting needs. In partnership with Technology, we are transforming SWIB into a premier data-driven organization.
Under the direction of the Investment Data Manager, the Investment Data Business Systems Analyst is responsible for the implementation and management of SWIB’s data management practices for Securities and Security-related data enterprise-wide. As such, this role is responsible for working with different areas of the organization to ensure the implementation of data governance principles, policies, and standards. The position is responsible for day-to-day investment data quality that is supported by a federated model comprised of business data owners and data stewards, business process staff, technology, and third-party service providers. The individual must be an advocate for data governance, develop and implement data quality processes and measurements, support the onboarding of new data and manage data vendors and data tools and systems. The position also provides technical expertise in and best practices for the design and implementation of data management technologies including preventive and detective controls, logging of exceptions, issue correlation, and impact analysis.
Position Overview
Essential activities:
  • Establish one’s self as SWIB’s Security Data Subject Matter Expert.
  • Proactively govern agency-wide security data to support real-time, daily, monthly and quarterly needs.
  • Collaborate with Investment Management, Operations, and Technology resources internal and external of SWIB to ensure business needs are continuously being met proactively.
  • Work with Technology Owners, Business Owners, and Operations to research and implement new middle and back-office solutions and identify the support needs of those solutions.
  • Partner with others to perform functional testing of enhancements/changes to systems to validate data quality.
  • Identify gaps in SWIB’s data architecture and design. Provide recommendations to address these gaps.
  • Partner with technology to architect/design quality data solutions for the middle and back office.
  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate data solution design meetings.
  • Continuously evolve knowledge of investment and asset management business practices.
  • Research new investment management technologies to help drive SWIB’s data capabilities forward and maintain a high degree of awareness of common industry-specific trends, products, vendors, and services.
The ideal candidate:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with a preference focus within Information Systems or Finance.
  • 7 plus years of investment management industry experience in data management, data quality, data architecture development or data science. Experience must include supporting complex, multi-dimensional actively managed investment strategies.
  • Experience with vendors such as Eagle Pace, FactSet, Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin, Charles River, or equivalents for public and private market portfolios.
  • Knowledgeable of investment management industry best practices including security mastering and modeling and data governance best practices.
  • Ability to deliver successful outcomes and work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to document and communicate technical knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to design, communicate and ultimately deliver solutions.
  • Communicating complex data concepts in layman’s terms.
  • Ability to design technology solutions to solve business problems.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data specifications and design systems to meet business needs.

The position requires U.S. work authorization and residency in, or willingness to relocate to the Madison, Wisconsin area. SWIB is prepared to offer relocation assistance as needed.
