The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is specifically designed to serve as the main intake and assessment center for male inmates. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody and medical, mental health, dental, substance abuse, life skills, cognitive/behavioral, and/or sex offender treatment services. 

This position is responsible for filling and delivering canteen orders, inventory control, ordering merchandise and supplies, and supervising the inmate workers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Maintains a segment of the fiscal system and multiple databases.
  • Posts fiscal/statistical data, performs calculations, balances totals, verifies, sorts, and sequences fiscal documents.
  • Investigates and either resolves issues with out-of-balance conditions and system irregularities or brings management attention if unable to do so.
  • Disburses fiscal information pertaining to canteen purchase/receipts and sales.
  • Delivers purchases to the inmate population.
  • Assists in the inventory of all products sold in the canteen.
  • Responds verbally and/or in writing to requests for information.
  • Screens and corrects documents for procedural compliance; evaluate the information for accuracy.
  • Provides customer service to customers, inmates, and staff.
  • Performs administrative duties requiring considerable judgment.
  • Tracks information.
  • Evaluates information for accuracy.
  • Assures procurement process is managed appropriately and according to established procedures.


Preference may be given to those having experience in product sales/ordering and maintaining a large inventory. 


  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations and policies, technical processes, and procedures related to the department.
  • Knowledge of financial record keeping and reporting principles and procedures, basic accounts payable, and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service.


Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


  • Walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time
  • Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance on a regular basis
  • Walking on cement floors on a regular basis
  • Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching on an occasional basis
  • Reaching on a regular basis
  • Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis
  • Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
  • Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures,
    viewing computer terminal, extensive reading.
