GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a Technical Operations Technician II in Basin, Wyoming. This position works in the electrical traffic operations by inspecting, installing, upgrading, and maintaining all electrical and traffic control devices within District 5 while working to provide a safe, high quality, and efficient transportation system.
Basin was formed in 1896 due to being the center of rich agriculture, and, today, Basin is known as the “Lilac City” and is the heart of the Bighorn Basin. - Maintain, repair, inspect, and ensure proper operation of all traffic signal, lighting, flashing beacon, and road closure systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, emergency repair, troubleshooting, modifications, utility locates, and inspects contractor installations of complex electrical and electronic devices.
- Monitor operations remotely or in the field.
- Responsible for site maintenance.
- Provide traffic control when needed and wears proper protective equipment. Operate digital message signs, portable traffic signals, and signboards.
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:**Requires the following certifications: IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Safety, IMSA Signal Technician Level I, IMSA Signal Technician Level II
**Wyoming CDL Class A license
KNOWLEDGE: - Basic hand tool use and knowledge
- Knowledge of Manual on Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Knowledge of the electrical theory of DC and AC systems from 12V DC to 3 phase 480V AC
- Troubleshooting and repair electrical or electronic devices
- Utility Locating competency and certification
- Specialized knowledge of 170/2070 traffic signal architecture
- Ability to read and use a digital multi-meter
- Ability to read and use wiring diagrams and schematics
- Ability to perform the job in a safe manner for both workers and the public. Includes traffic control, bucket truck operation safety, electrical safety, and general safe work practices.
- Competency in the use of computers and specialized software
- Proper training in basic first-aid and CPR

Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: - Work in extreme weather and hazardous conditions
- Position involves heavy lifting
- Work at heights up to 40 feet in a bucket or lift truck
- Workaround high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment
- Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls anytime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a response time of no greater than 30 minutes. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it.
- Must be able to travel and spend nights out of town when required
NOTES: - FLSA: Non-exempt
- Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements within 30 days of employment.
- Must obtain IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification within two (2) years of employment.
