Summary
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible ensuring the Regulatory Compliance
and Certification approvals for products developed and/or sold in North America and the
associated facilities and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Regularly reviews certification portfolio and looks for ways to optimize for clarity,
cohesiveness and cost savings.
• Works closely with Engineering and Product Management to help shape future product
features and requirements, and assess concepts for regulatory compliance.
• Manage regulatory certification process and documentation for new and existing
products and changes/alternate constructions of existing products.
• Communicates with Headquarters to determine patent potential of new products.
Facilitates patent process when necessary. Review patent activities from global ECS
team and inform technical team of interesting and/or important developments.
• Organization, maintenance and coordination of Standards library (UL, IEC, MIL Spec,
NFPA, DIN, TüV, etc) both on our local server and with the global ECS team.
• Constantly stays up-to-date on new certification requirements and proposed future
changes to certifications. Actively reviews and creates pre-emptive measures to limit
future conflicts and non-conformance issues.
• Active member of the project team for generation of the product scope, technical
specification and conformance verification report (CVR) planning, execution and
completion. Support sales team in generation of market requirements documentation.
• Provides testing guidance with a focus on standards requirements to facilitate accurate
and targeted product testing.
• Manages any certification conflicts, variation notices or non-conformance issues; acts
as the project lead to bring them to resolution (including coordination with both the
local and international ECS team members in Engineering, Production, Logistics and
Quality) and oversee factory inspection process from various agencies.
• Plans, oversees and helps with the creation of certification submission samples.
• Creates and presents training on certification processes and requirements for both the
technical and sales teams.
• Actively coordinates with the Ops and Quality teams to ensure all relevant certifications
requirements with respect to processes, documentation and product labeling are being
followed and conformed with.
• Creates certification-related annual budget, then tracks and relays the progress as
required by the Finance Department to the Engineering Manager
• Review and approve all certification-related invoices and track against compliance
budget.
• Organization and maintenance of open certification files for all relevant 3rd-party
agencies (TüV, UL, CSA, etc)
• Ensure compliance with relevant local and international standards with regards to
environmental stewardship such as RoHS, REACH and WEEE as well as Conflict
Minerals for products designed and/or manufactured from this location.
• Support generation of all product safety related documentation such as CE declaration
of conformity, Product Safety/Warning Sheets, alternative ratings statements,
assembly instruction (MA), etc.
• Coordinate ongoing annual compliance testing for production products to satisfy TüV
certification requirements.
• Provide technical support and technical expertise for Technical Committee presence of
Business segment specialists on various TC as needed. Participate on subcommittees
as needed.
• Minimum of 20% travel required.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must:
• Demonstrate understanding of terminology, principles and theories of applicable task
• Demonstrate ability to read and understand technical specifications, manuals, and
drawings.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with local
and international engineering groups and sales team, handle questions promptly and
explain decisions thoroughly.
• Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

• Proficient with CAD and PLM software. Autodesk Inventor and SmarTeam preferred.
• Familiar with International Standards from UL, IEC, VDE, DIN, ASTM, TüV and ANSI
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Be a self-starter and work under limited supervision.
• Possess strong decision making skills and the ability to make decisions in a timely
manner. Must display a willingness to take reasonable risks within the bounds of
authority and accept responsibility for decisions. Decisions are to be consistent with
company policies, procedures and objectives.
Education and/or Experience
• BSME or BSEE required
• 5 years of practical experience as Product Design or Compliance Engineer
• Electrical connector experience preferred
• Experience with Certification of Product at UL and/or TüV
