What are the responsibilities and job description for the Furnace Operator position at Steel Dynamics, Inc.?
Performs various jobs in aluminum foundry concerned with melting metal, alloying metal, pouring molten metal into molds and pots, preparing metal for shipment
- Comply with direct orders from supervision and management team
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Keep his/her furnace within a specific chemistry and temperature range to comply with customer needs for a particular alloy
- Test equipment and machinery to ensure it is in good working condition
- Clean area at the end of day and ensure all equipment is properly functioning for the next crew
- Follow federal, state and company safety rules to ensure personal safety and the safety of every employee at Superior Aluminum Alloys
- High level understanding of all hazards associated with the role as a Furnace Operator at Superior Aluminum Alloys
- Must be trained to operate mobile equipment (front end loader, well walker, and forklift)
- High level understanding of furnace operation (temperatures, chemistry of aluminum alloys, scrap knowledge)
- Basic mechanical skills
- Physical ability to withstand high humidity, high radiant temperatures, and endurance to work 12 hour shifts
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
