Position
Strategic sourcing is of vital importance to OMG based on our need to identify and secure supplier lines that deliver a competitive advantage. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies for assigned commodities. This key role manages supplier selection, negotiates agreements and develops structured relationships with suppliers that result in production needs being met. The Commodity Manager monitors and reports on critical market trends tied to assigned commodities, and internal supply versus demand, as the foundation for critical sourcing decisions. This position also leads a team of purchasing resources tied to specific commodities. Key to success in this role is the ability develop a team capable of using market data and company requirements to maintain availability of cost-effective materials and product, while mitigating the risks associated with relying on external resources to meet customer demand. The position requires excellent critical thinking skills, a bias for action, strong communication skills, the ability to work cross functionally within the Company and people management and development skills.
Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the Number 1 priority of all OMG employees.
- Develop and maintain team capable of exceeding commodity management expectations utilizing strong communication and collaboration.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned commodities.
- Ensure that supply base delivers as promised on quality of incoming material, delivery performance to planned levels, and cost improvement year over year.
- Target annual cost savings and implement metrics to track progress against goals.
- Mitigate material shortages by participating as partner in Sales & Operations Planning, and Service Delivery.
- Create necessary cross-functional teams to execute buy strategy.
- Utilize best practices in supplier qualification, management and consolidation.
- Report on indices of feed stocks, and actual and forecasted pricing out 12 months.
- Develop standardized external market tracking for key, high volume, commodities.
- Regularly evaluate assigned commodities against market factors using contract negotiations, competitive bidding, supplier surveys, and production feedback.
- Create and maintain market forecast for key commodities and develop plans to adapt existing strategies to efficiently adapt to changes in market conditions
- Meet new product, and research and development, cost objectives, schedules and material reporting requirements.
- Use continuous improvement to optimize strategy design and execution.
- Comply with legal and audit requirements tied to sourcing management.
- Collaborate effectively as a member of the Supply Chain organization.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Master's Degree preferred).
- 5+ years experience developing and implementing successful sourcing strategies (manufacturing environment preferred).
- 5+ years demonstrated success developing and maintaining purchasing resources.
- Demonstrated success with global supplier management, including ability to adjust strategies to market changes.
- Demonstrated success negotiating complex sourcing agreements.
- Familiarity with relevant laws and audit requirements including Robinson Patman, Walsh Healy and Dodd-Frank Acts.
- Strong comprehension, application and execution of best practice negotiation skills. Strong commitment to supplier relationship ethics including but not limited to fairness in negotiations.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, demonstrating strong bias for action.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and drive effectiveness.
- APICS and CPSM Certification preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel 25%-35% (domestic and international).
- Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly, and influence cross functional teams effectively.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Exceptional PC skills using the full MS Office Suite inclusive of Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Word
- Positive attitude, good judgment and excellent time management skills.
