What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipelayer - Mechanical position at Stellar Group?
Overview
Stellar is seeking Pipelayers with experience laying ductile iron/mechanical joint and CPVC/PVC to prepare and install underground pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Follow specifications or blueprints to lay out pipe routes, coordinating layouts with supervisor as needed
- Cut pipes to required lengths, prepare them for welding and sealing, and assist in alignment during pipeline construction
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glue
- Assemble, install, and repair underground pipe fittings and valves of various materials and sizes for storm drains or sanitation sewers, and water mains
- Install pumps, valves, sanitary and stormwater sewer structures and pipe systems
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements using APL, levels and lasers
- Measure, cut, and leak test pipes
- Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools
- Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area
- Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of experience with at least 3 years as a Journeyman
- Extensive underground knowledge and experience required
- Food Processing Plant experience preferred
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate excavating equipment as well as shooting grade accurately preferred
- Knowledge and usage of measuring and testing devices, hand and power tools
- Basic math abilities
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Strong problem solving, communication and organizational skills
