Health/Dental Coordinator

 

Purpose of Classification: 

The purpose of this classification is to plan, coordinate, implement and monitor the health, dental and safety services of the agency according to the Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) and other regulations, policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

 

Plans, coordinates, implements and monitors mandated Head Start and ODJFS’ services, rules and licensing regulations; follows American Academy of Pediatrics and Ohio Department of Health recommendations:  creates health care plans to use for children; attends pre-service planning meetings for each child that has special needs and accommodations in the classroom; monitors all health and dental screenings; provides support and training to staff; and recommends policies and procedures to

specific delivery of health and dental services.

 

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

 

Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.

 

Assists and educates families of Head Start children with information and services for their health care and dental needs: meets with parents, families and staff concerning health and dental issues; plans the vision and hearing screenings performed by the Health Assistant; reviews documentation and reviews work plans.

 

Plans, coordinates, schedules and trains mandated training programs for staff to include:  CPR First Aid and Communicable Disease training.

 

Prepares budget and tracks program expenses and recommends expenditures of Head Start Funds; prepares reports for Board of Director review, purchase orders for supplies and dental bills prepares agendas and sign in sheets for meetings and trainings as well as meeting minutes, training forms and technical assistant forms and documents.

 

Attends meetings, conferences workshops and training for professional development and to obtain best practices to perform in the position.

 

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.   

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or health education or a related field required; Supplemented by three years of experience in a health care environment: Public Health Nurse, Medical/Dental Assistant including Lead or Supervisor experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

 

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license.  Must have State of Ohio ACT 33 (Child Abuse) ACT 34 (Criminal Record) and ACT 14 (FBI) Clearances.  LPN license; CPR and First Aid, COPA training.

Human Interaction:  Requires the ability to work with others to coordinate the more complex programs and more complex problems associated with the responsibilities of the job. Often represents the department and/or organization when dealing with others.

 

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials such as vision boxes, projectors, CPR manikins, pure-tone hearing equipment, computers, printer, copiers, and fax machines used in performing essential functions.

 

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

 

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

 

Functional Reasoning:  Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.

 

Situational Reasoning:  Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

 

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

 

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as odors, wetness, humidity, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/human bites, disease, or pathogenic substances.
