What are the responsibilities and job description for the NEMO Swim Lesson Coordinator position at Stephens Family YMCA?
GENERAL FUNCTION
To coordinate NEMO swim lessons for the Stephens Family YMCA.
KNOW-HOW
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl, backstroke, and breast stroke.
- Must know the basics of sidestroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke.
- Must be able to communicate with people of all ages and abilities, with respect.
- Must obtain a V6 Y Swim Lesson Instructor Certification within 120 days of hire.
- Show exceptional customer service skills with members and potential members.
- Must be friendly, able to relate to members.
- Experience with special needs population is preferred; we will train and/or certify employees.
- Be CPR certified in Adult, Pediatric and AED or obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
- Prefer current Lifeguard certification (ARC and/or YMCA), WSI or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
Responsible for:
- Scheduling all NEMO lessons and finding instructors for all NEMO lessons.
- Coordinating with Assistant Aquatics Director and Aquatic Director for pool and instructor use.
- Evaluating instructor’s performance once a session.
- One on one interaction with parents of NEMO students.
- Teaching lessons when an instructor calls out or rescheduling with parents.
- Promoting, advocating and building the NEMO programing.
- Supervise and assist any new staff in training when asked.
- Keep pool area clean of clutter and neat in appearance at all times.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing to be able to effectively teach swimming lessons and be able to hear and see distress signs.
- Possess the desire and ability to develop good character in others.
- Responsible for all other duties deemed necessary.
LESSON MANAGEMENT
Responsible for:
- Building relationships with YMCA members and participants.
- Provide activities which support and teach the YMCA’s goals to develop character.
- The safety of all participants in and around the pool area.
- Able to make sound judgement in an emergency situation.
- Able to make sound judgments and decisions involving rules of the pool and swimming lessons.
- Able to make sound judgments and decision in evaluating the skills of participants.
- Ensure that all paperwork is completed on time and done accurately.
- Responsible for being prepared to teach lessons and use lesson plans as recommended.
- Responsible for evaluating students on a daily basis and giving feedback to students and their parents throughout each session.
- Agree to promote the YMCA Aquatic Program and encourage students to continue aquatics training through the YMCA.
