The Senior Associate Athletic Trainer supports Stetson University by providing leadership and oversight for the University’s Division I intercollegiate athletics sports medicine and rehabilitative program. The Senior Associate Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine with ensuring compliance with all federal, state, NCAA, conference, and university regulations, creating and managing departmental resources in a fiscally responsible manner, and sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect at all levels. Serving as a member of the Sports Medicine Team, the Senior Associate Athletic Trainer will report to the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and supervise multiple Associate and Assistant Athletic Trainers. Additionally, they will oversee one of the main Athletic Training Rooms on campus, located in the Athletic Training Center. This Senior Associate Athletic Trainer will be specifically assigned to be the Head Football Athletic Trainer and oversee two Assistant Football Athletic Trainers as well as Men’s and Women’s Golf. The candidate should be prepared to handle all medical referrals to team physicians as well as coordinate care in the prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of their assigned teams. In addition, they will be expected to perform organizational and administrative duties, and other professional responsibilities that come with being a collegiate athletic trainer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all Sports Medicine operations for football and Men’s and women’s golf. Coverage for football includes, but is not limited to attending practices, games (home and away), conditioning sessions, as well as other team-related functions.
  • Supervise, manage, and provide annual evaluations to include recommendations of promotion or salary increases of Associate or Assistant Athletic Trainers assigned to the Sports Medicine Hiring and Promotion Committee.
  • Chair any search committee for an Associate or Assistant Athletic Trainer with a direct reporting line and make recommendations to the Sports Medicine Hiring and Promotion Committee.
  • Assist in the administration of all NCAA and institutional drug testing programs for all student-athletes under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Administer and execute clinical and administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine including, but not limited to:
    • Daily documentation and maintenance of medical records with the department EMR (SportsWare).
    • Oversight of the assigned Athletic Trainers’ medical documentation.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine with:
    • Planning and conducting pre-participation physical examination of all student-athletes.
    • Overseeing all phases of rehabilitation for all student-athletes for assigned teams.
    • Planning and participating in education and in-service presentations.
    • Assisting with additional coverage of athletic teams when needed.
    • Reviewing and updating the Sports Medicine Operations Manual on an annual basis.
    • Serving as a liaison between the Sports Medicine staff and the Strength and Conditioning staff as well as Team Physicians.
  • Provide supervision of the Athletic Training Center Athletic Training Room, including:
    • The maintenance of golf carts, modalities, and inventory.
    • Supervision of staff including MSAT students, team coverage, and scheduling.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Travel is required for all football and select golf tournaments.
  • Performs organizational and administrative duties and other professional responsibilities that come with being a collegiate athletic trainer.
  • Other duties assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.

Required Experience
  • National Certification through the Board of Certification.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Eligible for Florida Licensure.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate’s qualifications include:

  • 5 years’ experience in college athletics.
  • Red Cross CPR Instructor.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience as an Athletic Trainer with a collegiate football program.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
