What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Buyer position at Stevens Industries Inc?
The Project Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, components, and finished goods from suppliers for Stevens Industries, Inc.’s large commercial cabinetry projects for hospitals, clinics, schools, and universities. As part of the overall supply chain department, the Project Buyer strives to achieve the best possible cost savings while ensuring the most beneficial supply base for the company. This is a considered a critical position within Stevens Industries as the Project Buyer can directly impact the company’s overall profitability through their purchasing decisions.
Requirements
- Identifies suppliers through market research and data analysis that considers all aspects of a potential supplier’s performance; including quality, value, service, and the ability to deliver on time
- Fosters strong professional relationships with suppliers for retention purposes and to enhance their understanding of our manufacturing process and future business needs
- Negotiates long-term contracts that lays out the prices, quality standards, cost-reduction targets, delivery timescales, and commercial terms and conditions
- Monitors performance of suppliers and works with them to achieve continuous improvements in costs and performance
- Works with the commercial cabinetry (casework) project management teams to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the placed order and tracks and reports back ordered or missing products
- Delivers accurate purchasing reports in a timely manner

Requirements:- Proven working experience in manufacturing as a purchasing agent or buyer, project purchasing experience a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail
- A knack for negotiation and networking as well as an interest in market dynamics
- Solid independent judgement and decision-making skills
- Proficiency with data technology tools including purchase order software platforms
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with team members, clients, and suppliers
- Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration OR at least 5 years of equivalent experience
