Position Summary

Responsible for submitting medical claims to insurance companies, collecting, posting, and managing account payments, following up with insurance companies and answer questions on patient responsibility, co-pays and deductibles for individuals utilizing the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Verifies patient benefits eligibility and coverage.
• Enters information necessary for insurance claims into the EHR, such as client insurance ID, modifiers, and provider information. Ensures claim information is complete and accurate.
• Submits insurance claims to clearinghouse, individual insurance companies electronically, or paper claims, as necessary, to include secondary insurance claims when applicable.
• Conducts initial intake financial counseling and answers patient questions on patient responsibility, copays, deductibles, write-off’s, etc.
• Follows up with insurance company on unpaid or rejected claims. Resolves issue and re-submits claims.
• Prepares appeal letters to insurance carrier with supporting documentation when not in agreement with claim denial.
• Prepares and sends monthly patient billing statements for charges not covered by insurance.
• Completes initial collection attempts, and provides necessary information to collection agencies for delinquent or past due accounts.
• Posts insurance and patient payments using EHR.
• Analyze insurance aging reports to identify unpaid claims and outstanding patient account balances using the EHR.
• Follows HIPAA standards and maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
• Works closely with clinical staff to ensure clinical documentation required for billing is complete and accurate.
• Manages and maintains billing for county contract.
• Completes end of month reporting.
• Maintains medical/ insurance files.
• Completes deposits and reports.
• Provides coverage and support activities for the front desk, as needed.
• Other job duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of medical billing and collection procedures and general business office procedures.
• Understands managed care authorizations and limits to coverage such as the number of visits.
• Knowledge of the eligibility, enrollment and program requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 billing codes
• Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment

Position Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Graduation from medical billing program preferred.
• Previous work experience in a medical billing position
• WA State Driver License and ability to be approved by Tribal insurance to drive Tribal vehicles if applicable.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening and ongoing random drug screenings.

$27.93/hour
