What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planer position at Stimson Lumber Company?

The Planer Setup Trainee/Planer Feeder Person will:

  • Learn to identify, communicate and help to solve hazards.
  • Learn to apply technical understanding of planer to improve and optimize planer production, product quality and safety
  • Support planer maintenance and repairs when needed, work in partnership with Maintenance team.
  • Safely fix wrecks and blow ups in the planer area while adhering to the Planer Safety Practices.
  • Operate the Planer Tilt Hoist to smoothly and efficiently feed rough lumber to the Planer while also maximizing product value and grade yield.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a strong commitment to safety.
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude.
  • Preferred but not required are experience, knowledge and troubleshooting of planers, planer set up and alignment, and knife grinding machines and equipment.
  • Preferred but not required is experience and knowledge working with SapStain/Spraybox application.
  • Possess and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and OT as necessary.
  • Ability to manage and balance competing priorities.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand 10 hours per day, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, and move equipment as needed
  • Must be comfortable in loud conditions, with airborne particles (sawdust), and working around moving mechanical equipment-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player and highly self-motivated individual
  • Must be able to read and understand a micrometer and tape measure.

Salary : $40,400 - $51,200
