Position Purpose: Responsible for executing timely trades for various commodity markets. Market Making for internal/external clients and position management for commodity markets.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains a profitable trading portfolio record.
  • Oversees all of the trading activity for a specific group of product(s) E.g., Energy Complex.
  • Utilizes options, commodity spreads and time spreads to manage portfolio risk and optimize forward strategies.
  • Educates internal/external clients on commodities trading and risk management.
  • Analyzes internal clients operations to determine market exposure, price sensitivity and financial risks.
  • Performs market analysis, including reporting on commodities production, weather, supply and demand variables, and provides risk mitigation and margin enhancement strategies for clients.
  • Assesses risk management processes and functions, monitors trading risks and identifies underlying risk exposure.
  • Develops and recommends fact based risk mitigation and margin enhancement strategies for clients.
  • Understands and evaluates market fundamentals to develop short and long-term strategies.
  • Works with related commodity groups to ensure overall portfolio exposure is optimized across commodities.
  • Evaluates and capitalizes upon market changes due to changes in customer usage and assets.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with various counterparties
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years practical work experience
  • 3-5 years risk management experience in commodity markets or strong knowledge of commodity trading business, either as a trader or in financial support activity,
  • Original and independent thinking is a must to identify and respond to customer needs through the structuring of effective solutions
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and emphasis on attention to details.
  • Must be results oriented, creative and innovative.
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer

Class: Full-time, Exempt

  • Climate controlled office environment
  • Minimal physical requirements other than occasional light lifting of boxed materials
  • Dynamic, time-sensitive, trading room environment
  • Travel as needed
