Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Transformation Officer, the Director of Strategic Intelligence provides ongoing consultation and thought leadership of the competitive environment and internal opportunities to support the development and implementation of strategic transformation efforts, working closely with organizational leadership. Leads a portfolio of transformation projects for Stony Brook Medicine and the Life Science's Strategy Management process. Oversees the department of Strategic Intelligence.
Duties of a Director of Strategic Intelligence may include the following but are not limited to:
- Scanning the horizon to identify disruptive market trends and develop implications that will inform our beliefs about the future and how we should strategically respond
- Partnering with Strategy executives and consultants to conduct scenario analysis to inform the development strategic and transformation initiatives, in order to advance its market position and promote long term viability and ability to deliver on its mission
- Lead teams including marketing, service line leaders, hospital presidents, ambulatory executives, and physicians to assess the success rates and conversion rates of innovative growth initiatives
- Manages the multi-departmental (IT, planning, marketing, ACO, CPMP, captives)development of materials, analysis, and external relationship for highly confidential projects at the direction of the CSTO, and EVP and President of SBM
- Use data-driven solutions to conduct scenario planning as well a monitoring the progress and performance of those initiatives
- Supporting special highly confidential strategic projects for the CSTO, such as presentation creation and additional confidential, high priority efforts
- Leads C-Suite and executive leaders through strategic exercises, development sessions, and provides though provoking information and concepts to guide and form our strategic transformation
- In partnership with multi-departmental organizational leaders, leads the team development of market assessments and competitive analysis to support the strategy management process for the enterprise.
- Monitor implementation plans in accordance with the strategic direction articulated in the strategic plan and identifies barriers to success
- Works with planning, finance, and operations to develop KPIs and scorecards that allow for efficient and effective performance monitoring.
- Develops management structure models to ensure a data-driven process and outcomes-oriented measures.
- Acts as a trusted advisor and in partnership with planning for the organization related to market share analysis, competitive intelligence, industry trends, scorecard development, strategic assumptions grounded in data, and best practices.
- Ensures aligned results reporting and progress reports in partnership with organization wide analytics functions (IT, planning, ACO, CPMP, etc) for senior management.
- Serves as the Leader of the Department of Strategic Intelligence.
- Provides thought leadership for the development of strategic assumptions to support transformation efforts
- Supports the Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Transformation with progress reports related to the portfolio of work they are responsible for.
- Ensures staff development, counseling, performance evaluations, and hiring of positions for all direct reporting areas and models all Leadership Commitments. (attached)
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Manages the budget for area of direct responsibility.
- Works collaboratively with all key stakeholders across the enterprise.
- Remains current concerning industry-wide, best practices and collaboration and consistently employs and encourages best practices.
- Monitors current industry trends and makes recommendations to improve a data driven strategic methodology.
- Provides updates for strategy oversite teams/committees.
- Ensures department staff compliance with regulatory standards and educational requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Minimum of 5 years of strategy, hospital or consultation experience.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in leadership.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills required
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Proficiency with computer systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree in any health-related field; consulting experience with AMC clients
- A Bachelor of Healthcare Management, business management preferred, with experience in strategic planning/implementation, human centered design, and Jobs to be Done Theory.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $180000-$240000.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have a $3,026 location pay.
Some positions offer shift pay differentials for Night ($3,700) & Evening ($2,500) As well as Inconvenience pay of $575.
