Position Overview:
Regulatory Compliance Specialist will be a member of the Lactalis US Yogurt Division Legal and Regulatory team and will report to the Lactalis US Yogurt Division Regulatory Compliance Manager. The primary responsibility of the Regulatory Compliance Specialist will be reviewing and approving mandatory labeling elements, including but not limited to nutrition, ingredient declarations, allergens, and claims for FDA and USDA regulated products for the Lactalis US Yogurt Division. Will have the ability to provide guidance on compliance and regulatory issues to internal stakeholders across the Lactalis US Yogurt Division.
Key Accountabilities:
• Monitoring the regulatory environment and helping to ensure that ingredients, formulas, labels, and labeling are updated when new regulations are implemented.
• Ensuring FDA compliance of product nutritional and ingredient information, including confirming nutrition values, allergen and ingredient lists, net weight statements, nutritional and advertising claims, and standards of identity.
• Reviewing all packaging for compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
• Assisting with obtaining and/or renewing relevant national certifications.
• Assisting with the review of product claims made in marketing and sales collateral, websites and other consumer communications for compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
• Assisting with validation and relevance of claims when formulations are modified.
• Assisting in providing regulatory guidance to the business and actively participating in and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Assisting with review, improvement, development, and implementation of regulatory and compliance processes, procedures and training.
• Developing and maintaining accurate food labeling information for finished products compliant with FDA and USDA regulations.
• Maintaining records for auditing purposes.
• Take initiative and drive completion of medium complexity projects with minimal supervision.
Requirements
The Ideal Candidate will have:
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field.
• Knowledge of food and consumer goods industries.
• Knowledge of FDA food labeling regulations and documentation requirements, particularly dairy.
• 2-5 years of relevant food and organic food regulatory experience, including experience with organic regulations and regulation of milk and yogurt products.
• Knowledge of food product development and processes.
• Knowledge of food safety and quality are a plus.
• Must have initiative, be able to work independently and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to identify and analyze regulatory issues and develop and effectively communicate sound advice.
• Confidence in his/her knowledge yet openness to creative solutions.
• Ability to provide practical advice within applicable regulatory framework.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Acute attention to detail.
• Project management skill set and ability to manage several projects at the same time.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.
• Ability to operate in multi-functional teams and fast-paced environment.
• High level of organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Exemplary work ethic.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, company mission and values, training, and continued education on changing regulations.
• Extensive computer knowledge preferably in Windows environment.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of ESHA Genesis or other nutritional development software is a plus.
• Reading knowledge of French, a plus.
