Story Garden is a Reggio-inspired preschool in Martinez for children ages 2 to 4 years. With a focus on nature, imaginative play, and social-emotional growth, we aim to prepare children for their next stage in life while also keeping the joy and magic in childhood. We pride ourselves in creativity, innovation, progressive education, and high-quality care. Story Garden offer a low teacher to child ratio of 1:6 with a maximum of 12 children. We are a licensed program operating in our family home as well as one day a week in Briones Regional Park, open Monday through Thursday 9 am to 1 pm. This position is great for new teachers looking for experience while finishing up their ECE units. As an in-home program, ECE units are not required for employment. Gain experience with a very knowledgeable and experienced educator while taking afternoon and evening classes!
Responsibilities and Duties
The Preschool Teacher will work closely with the preschool director to facilitate play-based open-ended preschool activities, provide supervision, assist children in solving conflict and regulating emotions, help prepare snacks, assist with toileting and diaper changes, and clean and sanitize at the end of the day.
On Mondays, we spend our preschool day in Briones Regional Park at the Alhambra Creek Staging Area. The Preschool Teacher must be comfortable playing with children outside in all types of weather: heat, cold, rain, wind, etc. This is a messy, hands-on job. Must love nature. We also own a medium-sized dog who is with us during portions of the preschool day.
Qualifications and Skills
· At least one year of experience working with children required.
· Employee must be available the following hours:
MONDAY-THURSDAY 8:30 am - 1:30 pm
We are closed Fridays. Employee will work approximately 20 hours per week. In order to maintain our legal licensed ratio, employee must report to work every day that the school is open.
· Dept. of Justice fingerprint clearance/background check (we can assist with and reimburse for this if needed)
· TB test, vaccinated for COVID-19, MMR, and tDap, and in the fall, flu shot. Proof will be required.
Must be able to lift 30 lbs, walk a mile on rough terrain, and sit on the ground for extended period of time.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay is $18-22/hour depending on experience.
Start dates is mid-July or beginning of August. Must commit to entire school year.
We follow the Martinez Unified School District calendar and are closed all days that MUSD schools are closed. Employee will be paid for all 26 days that closures fall on the employee's regular work days. See our website for our full calendar.
