The role of Product Owner (PO) is a position on the Enterprise Partnerships Marketing team (part of Strategic Education, Inc.), and the PO oversees SEI’s prospect facing digital properties. The role is the intersection between business, technology, and user experience. The PO’s role is to own the product roadmap and backlog priorities. The PO works collaboratively with the team and stakeholders to clearly define goals and objectives for initiatives and sprints to ensure work alignment continually delivers business value. The PO works closely with the DE Marketing Operations Manager, product team, and leadership to execute the product vision to create an exceptional user experience. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Contribute to product vision, product roadmap, and prioritization frameworks across all product areas within the pod's initial scope, establishing the "why" behind the roadmap. Optimize current digital products and make recommendations for changes to products to maximize revenue, site traffic growth, and user engagement. Assess value, develop business opportunities, write and prioritize epics, stories (with the help of team), and themes on behalf of the users to ensure work delivers maximum value in alignment with product vision. Draft objectives and KPIs with stakeholders and team to foster shared delivery goals for each quarter. Help maintain a prioritized product backlog. Set project execution priority in partnership with stakeholders based on organizational need and roadmap. Develop detailed product features and requirements, and create implementation plans with team. Lead a cross-functional team of UX, designers, copy, developers and QA without any direct reports. Empowers the team to inform the best way to accomplish a story. Work with team members and stakeholders to understand opportunities for improving process and vision. Set and manage stakeholder expectations. Convey the status of the work to stakeholders. Drive product discovery with team leads and/or stakeholders to define scope (through story mapping) and slicing out work in smaller chunks (journeys) to determine launch line for rapid learning. Coordinate among a wide range of cross-functional internal resources to ensure that products get to market per specifications. Serve as the approver of what will be executed on SEI digital properties at the following points: movement of a project from request to kick-off, scope, and pre-launch. Communicate with the organization when items on the roadmap change or get delivered. Serve as an escalation point for conflict with implementation. Has the ability to make decisions that not everyone agrees with. Accountable for full platform and feature set, delivering in the product model and communicating & influencing product needs with stakeholders. Identify opportunities to develop new or improve existing online products and features. Solicit organization for upcoming needs. Analyze competitors’ online products and communicate competitive threats and opportunities to leadership. Responsible for identifying data integrations across systems. Participate in the daily stand-ups, internal sprint demos, release planning, road-map reviews, and sprint planning, as needed. Review the product progress at the end of every sprint and has complete authority to accept or reject work done. Deep user empathy and passion for building delightful product experiences. Represent the user, business, and technology to drive balanced decisions. Interface and engage users to inform product vision and direction. Job Skills: Ability to blend technical acumen with business requirements. Strong negotiation skills with an aptitude to manage controversial situations as well as influence. Ability to thoroughly understand complex business and technical issues; plan, prioritize, and organize effectively. Direct hands-on experience with grooming product backlogs and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements. Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and/or web technologies. Superior verbal & written communication and storytelling skills. Ability to influence others without authority. Ability to understand and translate complex technical concepts into understandable, digestible content for non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrate competency in relevant technologies and digital design principles in order to drive innovative solutions. Superior problem-solving, data, and analytical skills including the ability to define and decompose product KPIs and metrics. Expertise in discovery and mapping exercises to evaluate the best solution to problem definition. Possess a hybrid, results-oriented skill set. Ability to assess value, develop use cases, and prioritize stories, epics, and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy. Possess an understanding of relevant technologies and digital design principles in order to drive innovative solutions. Knowledge of the digital landscape with an awareness of emerging innovation. Comfort in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and sometimes ambiguous, work environment. Ability to manage all aspects of a successful product throughout its life cycle. Deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve the customer experience and drive conversion. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, experience in dealing with multiple and diverse internal stakeholders and interacting with business and technology partners. Strong execution skills work with a high degree of autonomy. Work Experience: Experience in product management and working on an Agile team where they have delivered a product to production, preferably at a high scale. Preferred Experience: Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Marketing, Computer Science, or other related field. Certificates, licenses and registrations: N/A Other: Must be able to travel 10% of time. Must be able to lift 15 lbs. Typical office setting. Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor. Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job. Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant Access information using a computer. Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
