SSU is currently recruiting for a Linguist (Korean/English) to support United States Special Operation Command – Korea (SOCKOR). This opportunity is an on-site / office position for an active contract.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Linguist (Korean/English) shall provide interpretation and translation services up to seven (7) days per week as required by SOCKOR and supported unit personnel. For some missions, an interpreter may be required to live in field conditions, working and living with service personnel for up to two weeks at a time. Unless otherwise directed, linguists shall be available at the specified site for a minimum of 8-hours per day and may be extended to 12-hours during surge operations. Duties shall include, but are not limited to:
- Performs oral translation from English into Korean and vice versa, in official and semiofficial meetings where mainly noncommittal subjects are discussed.
- Perform written translation from English to Korean and vice versa.
- Orally interpret such subjects as Military affairs, education, living conditions, technical subjects that are discussed in manuals, publications, current topics of conversations and other matters involving specialized technical military vocabularies.
- Conduct interpretation at official functions in support of unit and dignitary representatives.
- Provide translation services to SOCKOR in support of training, planning, and executing the training, readiness and exercise Program and supporting Joint/Combined exercises.
- Adhere to the standards of conduct established by the operational or unit commander.
- Live and work in an operational environment when required (e.g., semiannual exercises operating from CP Tango, FOS-I, USAG-Daegu).
- The work of this position is not sedentary, however, mostly light to moderate physical effort is required.
- The work is typically performed in the training environment which can be indoors or outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- This position shall be designated a Mission Essential Contractor (MEC).
Qualifications:
- Fluently speak, read, and write English.
- Fluently speak, read, and write Korean equivalent to ILRT 4 or DLPT 3/3/3 level.
- Able to understand the essentials of all speech in a standard dialect and have broad enough vocabulary that they rarely must ask for paraphrasing or explanation.
- Be able to attain and maintain access to classified areas within ROK Government and Military facilities.
- Able to follow accurately the essentials of conversations between educated native speakers, reasonably make and answer telephone calls, understand videoconference broadcasts, news stories like wire service reports, oral reports, oral and public addresses on technical and non-technical military subjects.
- Familiarity with the use of Microsoft and SharePoint products
- Ability to work in a high tempo, high stress environment with minimal oversight.
- Valid Korean or International Driver’s License
