Street Symphony is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that utilizes music to create opportunities of human connection to homeless and incarcerated communities through workshops, events, and one-on-one musical instruction. These musical programs are held at Skid Row clinics, homeless shelters, permanent supportive housing agencies, and LA County Jails.

Job Description: The role of the Program Manager is to coordinate all Street Symphony events under the direct supervision and guidance of the Artistic Director. Their role is to serve as a liaison between the organization staff, musicians, community partners and audience members. They will be involved in scheduling, contracting, and producing events in collaboration with Street Symphony staff. They are expected to participate in weekly staff meetings remotely and in person. They will also be responsible for administrative tasks and reporting related to events, such as collecting head counts, creating summary reports of all events (including capturing photos and video for social media - not responsible for posting), and some assistance with grant writing/reporting, and general organizational document management.
On a monthly basis, the Program Manager will be responsible to plan, manage, schedule, and attend (5) regular in person events per month, and assist in the production of Street Symphony’s two flagship events in September and December respectively.
Regular Events:
- Drumming in the Parks - 2nd Thursday of the Month
- Refresh Spot - 2nd Saturday of the Month
- Music With A Mission at The Midnight Mission - 4th Thursday of the Month
- Music for the Soul at Downtown Women’s Center - 4th Friday of the Month
- Additional monthly event on the 4th Saturday or Sunday of the Month.
Special Events
Street Symphony hosts large-scale flagship events on a quarterly basis. These projects will take an additional 8-10 hrs/week in the week of and prior to the event. In 2022, these events are currently scheduled for late Oct and Early Dec.
General Responsibilities:
- Serve as a communicative, adaptive and on-the-ground presence for all programs under the direction of the Artistic Director, specifically in coordinating musicians and community partners.
- Work closely in collaboration with all staff and musicians to execute events.
- Have ongoing communication and meetings with the Artistic Director prior to events for planning and coordination.
- Collaborate with Production Assistant in sound production set up, including live sound, and livestream set up for programs and events.
- Assist in contracting, schedule, & coordinate musicians as point person for musicians and facility staff
- Represent the organization in a professional manner while conducting themself with the highest degree of professionalism with community partners, musicians, stakeholders, board members, and community members of Skid Row.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment.
- Take mobile phone photos and videos to be shared on social media in conjunction with the Production Assistant.
- Be a witness to the event and offer qualitative reports of events from a storyteller perspective.
Qualifications:
- Highly preferred, proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster
- Must have 2-3 years event/concert event planning and production experience
- Must have your own laptop
- Must live in Los Angeles area, preferably downtown or no more than 15-20 mile radius of 90013
- Must have their own automobile and valid drivers license (proof of auto insurance)
- Must be a confident public speaker to articulate our mission, ability to express ideas verbally, and must have strong writing skills
- Preferred Bachelor degree in business or arts
- Passionate about Los Angeles, Social Justice, the Arts sector, music and/or performing arts
- Basic knowledge of Google apps, Mailchimp, Office, Gmail/emails, and project management software (preferably Asana).
- Basic experience in audio visual production related to streaming hybrid events (in person and virtual)
- Experience with computer, projectors, video, live-stream, sound systems
- Using Technology (Tech Savvy) - Working with electronic hardware and software applications
- Self-Management - Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
- Teamwork - Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals

Compensation: $25/hr; part time position, approximate 20-25 hours a week, with extended hours during special events. Opportunities to grow from a part time to full time position. If a qualified candidate presents themselves with exceptional qualifications and experience needed for this position, a full time position may be offered.
