Job Description
Are you passionate about providing an individualized virtual education so students are prepared to enter the workforce or continue with postsecondary education regardless of circumstance? Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina (HVASC) is an accredited public school serving students in grades 8-12. HVASC offers smaller staff-to-student ratios, personalized graduation plans, and daily mentoring sessions and wraparound services to help meet the educational and social/emotional needs of our unique student population. The Advisor is responsible for increasing student and Learning Coach engagement within the school to drive improved academic growth. The role is committed to providing consistent support throughout the student experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee a caseload of students assigned by the school to increase engagement (e.g., monitoring student log in, class attendance) through intervention (e.g., Learning Coach training, catch up sessions, time management).
- Provide consistent proactive support to students using data resources.
- Provide support to students and Learning Coaches through the Onboarding (Strong Start) experience.
- Serve as primary point of contact between students and Learning Coaches and teachers and/or school administration.
- Pursue and apply continuous education and training to increase efficacy with the dynamic needs of their students and Learning Coaches

Residency Requirements: Must reside in South Carolina
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of college AND
- Two (2) years of experience in education OR
- Equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Ability to pass required background check.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities.
- Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Web proficiency.
- Familiarity with the online learning experience.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time.
- Four (4) years of college education.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in learning and the use of technology.
- An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (ex. database and web-based tools).
