POSITION TITLE: Facilities and Maintenance Manager

STRONGARM DESIGNS provides the ideal customized, ergonomic, and environmentally protected workstation solution to the frontline workforce. Including healthcare, bio-pharmaceutical, food, manufacturing, and other industries. We are diligently seeking to hire a candidate for Facilities and Maintenance Manager. This position provides hands-on and management solutions for our three production facilities at our Horsham PA headquarters. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning and passion to apply the principles of continuous improvement to facilities and equipment maintenance by prioritizing iterative/incremental process focused improvements. Strongarm’s facilities are quickly growing in terms of capacity and scope; we have recently grown our 60,000 sq ft space by 9,000 sq ft and plan on another expansion of 30,000 sq ft in the latter half of 2023.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Facilities and Maintenance Manager for our Horsham PA headquarters you will be responsible for the hands-on general facilities duties of our 4 buildings, and hands-on maintenance of our heavy equipment including metal fabrication equipment, compressors, ovens, spray booths etc. You will also be responsible for managing, directing, and participating in the daily preventative maintenance of our facilities, equipment, and vehicle fleet. This will also include collaborating with, and assisting the staff of all our operations including, production, office, procurement, and engineering. You will also work closely with the company President, Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer, and the Director of Operations. This position is also responsible for maintaining a portion of our vendor relations by ensuring uninterrupted access to our facilities for deliveries and installations.

As a manager, you will also be responsible for supporting the needs of the staff under your charge and the needs of the staff occupying our various facilities. These needs include motivation, team building, and couching their needs to the other managers/departments and vice-versa. You will have the responsibility of advocating on behalf of your staff and operator level staff on how best to support their efforts to meet our company’s operating objectives. You will be collaborating closely with the departmental managers on how best to implement, perform, and document our maintenance programs and facilities duties. As week as aligning this effort with the company’s process oriented continuous improvement initiatives. This position reports to the Director of Operations. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1-3 years’ experience managing people in a supervisory or management role.
  • 5-7 years’ hands-on experience minimum in facilities and maintenance for a manufacturing facility (metal and/or electromechanical assembly facility preferred).
  • 2-5 years’ experience with implementing or managing preventative maintenance plans and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills a must.
  • Strong ability to communicate and mediate effectively; both written and orally.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with database systems (such as VISUAL) and Microsoft Office suite preferred.
  • Strong project management skills preferred.
    • Continually review and ensure that procedures, practices, standards, quality, and company policies are being followed.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend, lift, and/or walk for 2 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. (occasion but daily).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and lean/continuous improvement systems preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Up to date driver’s license required
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time within the United States

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilities Management:
    • Daily, weekly, monthly, etc inspection of all facilities ensure that any need for repairs or general maintenance is scheduled and performed by facilities staff, landlord or outside contractor as appropriate.
    • Oversee vendor and visitor activities as they pertain to use of facilities, including dropping off procured materials and installation of equipment within the facilities; this included overseeing worked performed by the landlord or outside contractors.
    • Reporting safety issues to the safety committee
    • Assisting the safety committee with improvements and safety concerns
    • Manage the facilities custodial requirements.
    • Collaborate with Director of Operations and Continuous Improvement engineer on developing improved preventative maintenance procedures and PM auditing.
    • Provide hands-on support for preventive maintenance duties
    • Ensuring maintenance reports are up to date, followed, altered, and developed as needed. (logbooks and Augmentir).
    • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement department on our digitization effort of our PM through Augmentir
    • Assist procurement in ensuring warehouse inventory needs as they pertain to facility consumables.
    • Develop procedures and schedule for consumable inventory need that pertain to the facility and heavy equipment.
    • Instruct employees on procedures, practices, and standards regarding PM, safety procedures, quality procedures, continuous improvement, verbal and written instructions, schedules, employee guidelines, and other STRONGARM operating practices and company initiatives.
    • Continually review and ensure that procedures, practices, and standards are being followed.
    • Liaison and practice a high-level of collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Production Departments to ensure high quality standards and provide feedback for continuous improvement initiatives. 
    • Corrective actions regarding company policies, maintenance, and operating procedures.
    • Scheduling the training and cross-training of personnel.
    • Coach and mentor personnel under your charge.
    • Ensure that facilities remain organized and clean.
    • Troubleshoot inoperable equipment on the shop floor as needed.
    • Assist HR with recruitment.
    • Perform bi-annual performance reviews of employees in the department.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations in leading and communicating our vision of being the industry’s preferred HMI solution through our continuous improvement change initiatives.
    • Ensure maintenance and compliance of our vehicle fleet, including box truck, van, forklifts.

 

  • Maintenance Management, equipment and tooling:
    • Manage, perform, and/or schedule outside trouble shooting and repair of reported inoperable equipment and tooling. 
      1. If equipment is able to be repaired, manage the work in-house with the production managers and shop floor staff.
      2. If equipment cannot be repaired and requires parts to be ordered, supply a list of parts and part numbers to procurement and the department manager and ensure that it is ordered and installed in a timely manner.
      3. If equipment cannot be repaired and requires a service tech, supply procurement and department manager with the equipment model number, serial number, and problem.
    • Ensure equipment and tool maintenance/preventative maintenance is completed as required and that maintenance logbooks are filled out. (Eventually including Augmentir)

 

  • Quality:
    • Spot check equipment indicators.
    • Manage and participate in the review and problem-solving of Non-Conforming Materials Reports (NCMRs) generated by personnel and yourself.
    • Generate Engineering Change Request forms (ECRs) 
    • Communicate and problem solve quality and operating discrepancies with the Director of Operations, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Special Projects:
    • Available to assist technicians with field repairs and installation of our products <5% of the time (typically one to two times a quarter).
