Facilities Engineering
- Maintain the physical building and property. The physical building includes the floors, walls, roof, windows, and doors. The property includes all outside grounds (parking lots, roads, lawns, pier, drainage, and wooded areas).
- Maintenance activities includes cleaning and repairs of the physical building. Outside maintenance includes pavement repairs, snow removal, lawn care, pier repairs, and landscaping maintenance.
- Manage improvements to the building and property. Improvements may include building additions and modifications. Obtain estimates for improvements, submit capital expenditure requests, and manage CER budgeting.
- Manage annual expense and capital budgets for the above as well as building utilities (water, electricity, gas, and other fuels).
- Work with insurance providers to ensure that all applicable insurance regulations and building codes are met.
Support EH&S Policies
- Support SubCom EH&S policies; ensure that periodic department safety meetings are held.
- Ensure that OSHA requirements are met for the physical building and property. Promote a safe and healthy workplace by considering safety in building and equipment design.
Interface with:
- All SubCom functional organizations such as Maintenance, Manufacturing and Purchasing.
- Service contractors such as janitorial, snow removal, lawncare and consultants and contractors for building modifications and improvements.
- Town of Newington for building permits, fire, and safety issues.
- FM Global for insurance and recommendations.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in a technical or engineering field.
- Minimum 10 years of engineering and/or facilities maintenance experience in an industrial environment. Prior supervision/management experience preferred.
- Knowledge and/or experience with building codes, building design, property maintenance, HVAC and clean room systems.
- Knowledge of CAD systems and software.
- Strong communication skills, team leadership skills and ability to provide technical leadership.
- Highly self-motivated, organized with excellent attention to detail.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Wear the proper personal protective equipment for each task, including, but not limited to, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, dust mask, etc
- Climb up and down from equipment; climb up and down a ladder and work at heights up to 40’
- Maintain proper balance while working at elevated level
- Regularly lift and/or move 40 pounds. Anything heavier than 40 pounds requires additional assistance
- Ability to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, or handle objects, tools and controls
- Ability to stand, walk, crawl, and climb stairs regularly
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently
- Ability to talk and/or hear frequently
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work both indoors (regularly) and outdoors (occasionally) in all elements
