Position Overview
The Security Specialist reports directly to the Senior Security Manager and assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of security procedures as required by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM). Assist with the management of personnel security clearances to include coordinating initial clearance submissions and periodic reinvestigations with employees, providing guidance and instruction to employees to ensure completion of security paperwork. Additionally, supports the Senior Security Manager with the Security Education and Awareness Program, Document and Data Control and other support activities.
Responsibilities
- Administer personnel security clearance processes to include coordinating initial clearance submissions and periodic reinvestigations of staff, providing guidance and instruction to staff to ensure completion of security paperwork, collection of ink or electronic fingerprinting of initial clearance candidates, and providing follow-up clearance report status on processed clearances to managers for specific contracts.
- Provide and document new employee security briefings, exit interviews and debriefing.
- Assist FSO with the maintenance of company security files and assist with annual Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) audits as needed.
- Perform access control responsibilities including managing badges, access cards and visit requests, as required.
- Act as the Alternate COMSEC Custodian, maintaining accountability for DOD and IC programs to include encryption devices, and classified communication networks. Maintains required security databases.
Qualifications
- 4 years of experience with industrial and personnel security BS or BA preferred.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with DCSA policies, the NISPOM, and other government security directives.
- Experience with handling of Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
- Experience in the preparation of DD254 forms.
- Active TOP SECRET level security clearance.
- Must be aware of present-day security issues.
- Knowledge of the other security disciplines, including information, physical, and COMSEC.
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to balance and prioritize work.
- Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Hands-on working knowledge with JPAS, E-QIP, NCAISS, DISS, NISS, and other security related databases to include completion of DSS courses and Personnel Security Management and Introduction to DoD Personnel Security Adjudication.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
