The Role
The General Manager serves as the face of Suffolk in the community, building the company's brand and relationship network. The GM develops and implements Suffolk's strategic plan; communicates all components of that plan and progress made against it to the group. This role is responsible for setting the business direction and strategy for the group, and creating and executing against the group's business plan.
Work Acquisition and Client Management:
- Ensure client satisfaction through formal and informal (client interaction, community events, etc.) channels
- Identify and cultivate new client relationships
- Provide guidance and direction to the local management team on account development and project pursuit strategies
- Assist in strategic subcontractor management
- Oversee the strategy and content of group proposals and/or presentations
- Approve all estimates, general conditions and fees
- Actively participate in industry events and associations
Group P&L Management:
- NOI forecasting and maintenance projections
- Revenue and income projections
- G&A planning and management
- Risk management
- Cash flow
- Contracts to prescribed limits
- Coordination of legal matters
Development of People:
- Recruit key staff and approve all hires proposed by the local management team
- Support and approve training and curriculum development and planning
- Create group organizational structure and staffing
- Oversee and direct the administrative and support functions of the group
- Implement strategy and development of Suffolk's business development proposals with the goal of winning new construction projects. This includes management of all components for the proposal, Quark production of the layout, printing and binding of the books and making sure delivery is handled.
- Assist in production of Suffolk's collateral materials including corporate capabilities books, award submittals, ads and presentations.
- Assist with events as needed including company meetings, topping-off parties, groundbreakings, conferences and sponsorships.
- Assist in keeping Suffolk database updated with current project information.
- Assist in the Suffolk Newsletter and Suffolk Magazine production when necessary.

- Bachelor's Degree and 20 years in the construction/management services industry.
- Energetic, enthusiastic self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail.

- Strong work experience in Southern California and deep relationships with developers, designers and subcontractors in this market.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands.
