The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
Our Community:
Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the communities of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend also Sultan High School.
Sultan Middle School:
Sultan Middle School serves approximately 431 students in our school community. The school values innovative and authentic learning opportunities for all students in our approaches to math, humanities and science instruction. SMS continues to grow as a learning community by developing differentiated and rigorous instructional plans, as supported by AVID and WICOR strategies. Sultan Middle School utilizes data in a meaningful way to monitor and support cultural growth within the school, both in the behavioral (PBIS/SWIS) and academic (SBA, i-Ready, BAS) senses. The Sultan community offers abundant opportunities to work with a diverse community and supportive PTO group to host a variety of school events that help to create and sustain a positive school culture that we take such pride in.Work as the member of a district administrative team toward the goals of preparing students to be ready for the next phase of their life whether it be citizenship, work or continuing education.

Scope of Responsibilities:
Under professional direction of the superintendent, this position is to serve as the chief administrative officer of a middle school facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and supervise cohesive teams of people within a middle school setting; guide teams to establish and achieve goals: create a climate in which people want to do their best; assess each person’s strengths and use them to get the best out of them: promote confidence and optimistic attitudes; is someone people like working for and with
- Is a leader that communicates a compelling and inspired vision or core purpose; makes the vision sharable by everyone; encourages distributive leadership among teachers and support staff, can inspire and motivate entire staff; treats all staff and students with respect and dignity
- Hires the best people available and assembles talented teams; good judge of talent
- Strong multicultural and ethnic understanding; support equal and fair treatment opportunity for all; foster a climate of inclusion; have a working knowledge of restorative practices, student equity and trauma informed practices.
- Work as the member of a district administrative team toward the goals of preparing students to be ready for the next phase of their life whether it be citizenship, work or continuing education.
- Have a thorough understanding of best practices with instruction and assessment and be able to provide the leadership necessary to implement these practices with new and veteran staff members.
- Supervise instructional and support staff by establishing clear direction; establishes goals and assigns responsibilities that bring out the best in people; promote staff development establish a good work plan and distribute workload appropriately; is open and direct with others without being intimidating; is a people builder
- Works closely with staff, building leadership team, and stakeholders to assess educational and program needs based on student performance and program data.
- Develop short-term, mid-term and long-range planning strategies for creating an optimal educational program.
- Plan, develop, organize, and administer a variety of support systems which aid in allowing the student population to achieve at their maximum potential.
- Assist in the development, implementation, interpretation, and administration of policies, rules and regulations, and negotiated employee agreements.
- Coordinate student and family assistance programs with social service and youth service agencies.
- Responsible for planning and budgeting; as well as managing, monitoring, and evaluating specially funded programs to ensure compliance with funding agency standards and guidelines
- Manages master schedule and computer technologies to enhance classroom instruction and school management; posses required functional and technical knowledge and skills to do his or her job at a high level of accomplishment
- Implements practices for effective student discipline and the overall safety of students and staff.
Qualifications:
- Master of Arts or higher degree in educational administration or a closely related field.
- Valid Washington State Administrative Certificate.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, plus successful administrative experience at the middle school level preferred.
- Ability to construct, implement, and monitor timelines and meet deadlines on projects and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public, realizing that this position is a critical part of our community.
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, strategies, goals, and objectives of public education.
- Knowledge of philosophical, economic, and legal aspects of public education.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies, and program supervision, assessment, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques.
- Ability to make effective instructional practices the top priority and demonstrate effective organizational and administrative leadership.
- Ability to set high expectations for staff and students and inspire people to work towards those expectations.
- Ability to approach the supervision and evaluation of staff with a growth mindset using AWSP Leadership and 5D Instructional Frameworks.
Compensation/Salary: · New Salary Schedule for 2022-2023 - Currently being negotiated · Current: $138, 324-$160,276.00 Generous benefit & retirement package · 218 day contract, plus education incentive
