Equity Research Associate - Energy

Overview

SMBC is seeking an Equity Research Associate to support the Senior Equity Research Analyst’s Energy coverage, with a focus on both the Oil & Gas Industries as well as the Alternatives/Renewables space. This is a unique opportunity to join a new team building out its coverage universe and you will be afforded a high degree of responsibility. The position is ideal for someone with a finance and specifically an energy background who has an interest in public markets and equity investing. In this role, you will assist the Senior Analyst in all aspects of the research process, including research reports, financial models, primary/secondary research activities, marketing materials, and communication with institutional investor clients, internal sales and trading, and corporates.

Responsibilities

• U.S. equity research coverage: read industry and company specific studies and information, analyze financial results, economic data, business forecasts and maintain extensive financial models to use for purposes of forecasting business outlook and resulting financial projections and making industry and investment recommendations to institutional clients.

• Create and maintain earnings, valuation and industry models leveraging skills in accounting, finance and economics.  

• Assist in writing research reports for initiations of coverage, analysis of data, earnings results and industry news.  

• Develop relationships and interact with internal sales team and institutional investors, responding to requests for information, financial models and data analysis.

• Assist internal sales and trading teams in the timely analysis and communication of breaking news in the sector.

• Conduct industry due diligence and primary research through surveys, expert conference calls, and various channel checks to evaluate industry trends.  

• Develop and maintain relationships with investor relations and management personnel of companies under coverage. 

Qualifications

• Work Experience: 2-5 years of comparable or relevant experience
• Education: Required BA/BS
• Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: FINRA Series SIE/7, 63, 86 & 87 Preferred
• Language Skills : Business fluency in the following languages: English
