Overview
SMBC is seeking a Senior Credit Portfolio Manager at the Vice president level for the Risk Management department located in White Plains, NY.
Responsibilities
Role Description:
Responsible for assessing key portfolio and market trends, and synthesizing such data to develop a cohesive assessment of the credit portfolio for both senior management and regulators
Lead the credit risk team engagement on ongoing CECL implementation process
Actively engage in the periodic reserve governance, review and challenge sessions. Perform relevant analytics to identify key reserve change drivers and communicate to senior management and other key stakeholders to inform decision making
Support the enhancement and adjustment of risk control measures, credit underwriting standards, and maintain ongoing communications with business units and credit approval functions to effectively guide businesses within such controls and authorities
Create presentations which illustrate credit portfolio trends and developments, and highlight key points in a readily understandable manner
Assess developments in the credit portfolio with respect to risk guidelines, framework, or limits as appropriate
Synthesize credit matters and develop contextual content for presentations to senior management and regulators
Review examination feedback from internal and external auditors, as well as regulators to determine whether policy or other guidance updates are required to address findings

Interpersonal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to solicit input and distill complex credit issues and concepts that are accessible to all stakeholders with different experience levels.
Proven leadership skills with both direct reports, colleagues and senior management
Able to work well across functions and levels of expertise, to solicit and capture multiple points of view; render information so that it is accurate and actionable
Ability to communicate appropriately at every level of the organization, including credit risk peers, business partners, senior executives, and external regulators
Expertise
Expert understanding of credit risk management concepts and rating methodologies, proficient understanding of commercial credit products, and knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices
In-depth knowledge of the end-to-end credit reserving process, including ALLL and CECL concepts, and working knowledge of credit risk management and accounting frameworks
Excellent analytical skills; intellectually curious; problem-solving abilities and ability to synthesize complex issues
Strong attention to detail
Project management experience preferred
Requirements:
10 years of experience in the financial services industry
Experience in global financial services is preferred
Education:
Required: Baccalaureate degree in finance or related field
Preferred: Advanced degree or certification, such as MBA, FRM, or other Risk Management certifications
