Overview
US Corporate Loan and Operations is a part of the Loan Services Operations group within SMBC and is responsible for servicing a syndicated loan portfolio in which the bank is a participant. The Analyst services a portfolio of complex loan products. This is a tactical and transactional role that requires a high degree of expertise and frequently exercises operating discretion within established parameters in partnership with more experienced staff. Assists Associates in the review and approval of administrators' work. Support a synidicated portfolio whereby SMBC is a participant lender in teh US Corporate Loan & Operations department in the Middle/Back Office. Support a portfolio of loans, ability to read and interpret loan notices, support software processes, has an understanding of Loan IQ and can communicate via telephone with a variety of people including customers, banks and client executives.
Responsibilities
- Processes new drawdowns, paydowns, Letters of Credit (L/C) activities and interest and fees for syndicated and bilateral deals
- Provides lending services to customers and maintains accurate data
- Ensures all past due principal, interest and fees are reported, tracked, collected and/or reconciled
- Coordinates daily funding requirements with Treasury Desk for managed loan portfolios
- Supports the Treasury Desk's daily requirement to accurately manage its cash and funded positions
- Troubleshoots loan related functional problems/issues and resolves problems or escalates as appropriate
- Trains and cross trains, mentors and guides team on new processes/improvements pertaining to the department's functionality
- Adheres to all applicable internal and external regulatory policies and procedures
Qualifications
Experience/Knowledge Requirements:
- 2 to 5 years of comparable or relevant experience.
- Experience managing complex loan portfolios in a financial institution is preferred.
Preferred:
- BA / BS (or equivalent experience)
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or comparable discipline is a plus
- MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Lotus Notes, Loan IQ
Operational Abilities:
- Interpret credit agreements and related documentation
- Experienced in varieties of loan servicing including all aspects of funding
- Manage a syndicated and/or bilateral deal portfolio of 90 - 110 facilities
- Follow instructions very well; detail-oriented
- Understand all aspects of deal/loan administration functions and tasks
System Responsibilities:
- Use of LIQ preferred but not required, or similar loan system
- Construct and amend bilateral and syndicated deal structures
- Troubleshoot basic loan related functional problems/issues
