Job Description:
Position Summary:
Stop-Loss RMS (SLRMS) is a segment of Sun Life’s Health and Risk Solutions business unit provides turnkey risk management services to various Clients interested in having their own stop loss product.
The Director will have oversight of all aspects of case pricing – from opining on the rate manual calculations, to the underwriting guidelines, to the utilization of nurse review, and setting case rates.
We are seeking someone with stop loss underwriting experience, underwriting nurse review management experience and reinsurance experience. In addition, the individual will be expected to foster relationships with our client’s actuarial and underwriting teams.
What you will do:
Represent SLRMS to the clients
Establish, lead and develop the talent on the underwriting and the nurse large claim review teams
Establish underwriting guidelines and independently make case-by-case decisions, escalating recommendations outside guidelines to AVP, Stop-Loss Risk Management Solutions
Collaborate with the FullscopeRMS team to attract new clients and retain existing clients
Contribute to defining and executing on short and long term business strategies
Collaborate with the Sun Life corporate teams as needed as well as with the Sun Life stop loss actuarial teams
Initiate studies and strategies that promote profitable business growth, making innovative process improvement recommendations
Anticipate and respond to client needs, identifying and implementing solutions
Assess predictive models and other tools utilized for catastrophic large claim management and implement such tools as appropriate
What you will need to succeed:
Ability to negotiate, persuade and resolve conflict effectively
Collaborative and comfortable navigating in cross functional organizations
Ability to work with a diverse range of people
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
Experience working in and with various actuarial functions, such as pricing and reserving is a plus
Some travel required
Required education and skills:
Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred
7 years of experience working with Stop-Loss product or related self-funded / healthcare experience
Demonstrated leadership and experience in managing employees within a small tactical unit
Experience underwriting Stop-Loss products
Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills especially in client/sales situations

If you are a Colorado resident, the minimum starting salary for this position will be $139,100.00 annually. Sun Life will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications and experience.
