Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary contact for veterans; serves as the veteran benefits certifying officer assisting with the onboarding of veterans
- Serve as SUNY Maritime SCO (School Certifying Official) to ensure any and all necessary procedural steps have been completed for proper processing of any and all Veterans Affairs certification/support entities
- Develops and oversees the College Activity Training Schedule, the MUG training programs (Deck and Engine licenses), and upper-class training evolutions to prepare for sea term/cadet shipping experiences
- Assists in the Indoctrination Program; advises, mentors, and trains the Indoctrination Officers and other cadet training cadre
- Assists in the development of the leadership and training programs for the Cadets in the Regiment
- Liaisons between the Regiment and academia, professional development programs on the ship and student services
- Coordinate with Student Accounts Office to make sure VA eligible students receive in-state tuition charge
- Coordinates/develops a wide range of educational outreach support and referral services for veterans, active- duty service members, and eligible dependents enrolled as students or graduate students at the College
- Supports and participates in sea term training evolutions
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Prior military experience or valid US Coast Guard license as 3rd Mate or 3rd Assistant Engineer
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks; demonstrated organizational skills. Desire to work in a student-oriented environment
- Microsoft skills, including Word, Excel, Banner, Advocate
- Ability to train on and learn VA School Certifying Official computer systems and processes
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-3 years comparable industry or sailing experience
- Knowledge of the maritime industry
- STCW '95 qualification
Additional Information:
Classification/Salary Range: The Regimental Training/Veterans & Military Affairs Officer is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $70,000 - $80,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the Full Time UUP Benefits Summary). Salary will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications to commence immediately and conclude when the position is filled.
Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
