Qualifications: Bachelors of Fine Arts degreeSuccessful passing of the MTEL Strong working knowledge of the concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching art at the high school levelStrong foundation in classroom managementDESE Licensure in Visual Art 9-12 Expertise in ceramics, including knowledge of wheel throwing, hand-building and kiln operationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1-5 years teaching experience in the discipline.Reports To: K-12 Visual Arts Director (Primary Supervisor) and High School Vice Principal (Secondary Supervisor)Work Year: In accordance with the Bedford Education Association's ContractSalary/Benefits: Salary to be determined based upon experience. Benefits in accordance with employees individual contract.Performance Responsibilities: Responsible for effective instruction, which includes making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniquesResponsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including, for implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans and\or second language learnersDevelop a visual art program to meet the needs, abilities and interests of studentsUse a range of instructional techniques and media consistent with available resources and student needs and capabilitiesExpand the students use of individual and collaborative strategies to generate concepts and ideasIncorporate new technologies and tools in the creative process, as well as keeping current with artistic trends through research and professional developmentTeach students how to identify visual arts elements and techniques used to create conceptsTeach students how to apply elements of design and modern principles of artFurther the students knowledge of visual arts and media through art theory and historyDevelop an aesthetic understanding and appreciation that allows students to make qualitative judgments about artEnable students to create a functional portfolio of their art worksPlan, coordinate and prepare art displays and exhibitions for the school and for the annual K-12 Art exhibitAssist students with effective display and presentation of their worksEvaluate individual student performance on a continual basisPrepare progress reports as well as report cards via an online grading systemCommunicate with staff and parents on student progressDevelop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with other middle school art staff, as well as BHS and district staffSelect and maintain required inventory of materials, tools, instructional aids and equipmentInstruct students in the proper use and maintenance of materials, equipment and toolsMonitor proper use and storage of materials, tools and equipment to ensure good materials managementEnsure the required standards of classroom management and student behavior are metMaintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulationsActively participate in departmental and K-12 meetingsActively engage in continuous professional growth (both teaching pedagogy and visual art)Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
