Job Requirements:
- Maintain current certification as a Certified Medication Technician
- Obtains at least twelve (12) hours of in-service/continuing education annually
Medication System:
- Administers medications as ordered by physician
- Discards discontinued/expired medications timely
- Stores medications safely and securely
- Maintains accurate count of controlled substances
- Documents all medications disposition accurately
- Ensures that all medications and treatments are labeled correctly, including open date stickers if required
- Ensures all medications and treatments are stored safely and appropriately
- Reports to Director of Nursing immediately of any narcotic discrepancies
- Ensures medication refrigerator temperatures are within guidelines
- Ensures medications are ordered from pharmacy of resident’s choice
- Medications are to be checked for reorders every shift and pharmacy notified
- Stock and disinfect medication cart every shift
- Notify nurse immediately of resident’s refusal to take medication
Resident Assessment:
- Vital signs, height and weight, intake/output
- Specimen collection
- Acknowledges and reports evidence of pain/discomfort of residents
- Acknowledges and reports evidence of skin breakdown to charge nurse
- Observes and reports residents’ response to basic care, procedures and treatments
- Observes and reports to charge nurse any change of condition of resident
