JOB TITLE: Endoscopy Technician and Scope Reprocessing Technician
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Scope Reprocessing Responsibilities:
- Preparing medical equipment and instruments for decontamination
- Operating equipment to clean, disinfect and decontaminate surgical instruments, medical devices and equipment
- Inspecting instruments and equipment for signs of damage and wear and tear
- Unpacking, checking and stocking new equipment, instruments and devices
- Delivering equipment and supplies to all areas of the facility
- Maintaining accurate records of when items undergo sterilization
- Monitoring temperature and humidity conditions within storage areas
Endoscopy Technician Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up the endoscopy room, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
- Assist healthcare professionals in performing endoscopic procedures by providing technical support and maintaining a sterile field.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopy equipment, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
- Retrieve and process specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
- Assist with patient positioning and comfort during endoscopic procedures, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Monitor patients during procedures, promptly reporting any changes in their condition to the healthcare team.
- Assist with the troubleshooting and maintenance of endoscopy equipment, coordinating repairs when necessary.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Endoscopy Technician Required Skills:
- Knowledge of endoscopic procedures and equipment, including colonoscopy and gastroscopy
- Proficiency in setting up and operating endoscopy equipment, including video systems, endoscopes, and related accessories.
- Ability to maintain a sterile field and follow infection control protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation practices.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Endoscopy Technician program or equivalent training.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation practices.
- Certification as an Endoscopy Technician is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in an endoscopy department.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy practices.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and assist with patient transfer.
- Flexibility to work evenings, late shift can go as late as 7pm.
