Position Overview:
Qualifications:
The hospital cardiovascular nurse practitioner (HCNP) directs daily medical care for hospitalized patients with cardiovascular medical and surgical diagnoses. This care includes physical examination, medical treatment and daily evaluation. The HCNP assures best possible patient processes and outcomes according to core measures, STS criteria and CMS criteria. Population is older adolescent through end of life, and is provided 365 days per year without exception.
Qualifications:
Education / Licensure / Certification
- Master’s degree in Nursing Required.
- Licensure as a furnishing nurse practitioner (or eligible to furnish) in the State of California.
- DEA provider of Schedule II-V controlled substances.
- BLS and ACLS required.
Experience
- Two years experience as a nurse practitioner in either hospital care or cardiovascular medicine;
- in lieu of that, at least 3 years experience in cardiovascular nursing, with at least two of those years in a critical care setting (required to be credentialed for patient care in I.C.U.s).
- Knowledge of current interventional cardiovascular procedures, cardiovascular surgeries, hypertension and dyslipidemia management, and CMS foci on core measures for care.
- Resource level performance of a complete cardiovascular physical examination.
- Desire and ability to work independent of continual physician supervision, after adequate orientation to position.
- Able to maintain composure during adverse conditions, such as patient emergencies, and workload fluctuations.
- Able to work effectively with physician colleagues, such as critical care medicine doctors, nephrologists, gastroenterologists and medical hospitalists.
- Computer literate and capable of mastering various health information systems.
