Position Overview 

Apex Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center and Apex Clinical Research Center Team is a rapidly growing skincare facility that empowers employees to deliver exceptional patient experiences. We are currently looking for a talented candidate for the role of Clinical Research Nurse.  The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for various tasks associated with clinical study coordination (See below).

This is a Salaried, exempt position. This position requires legal authorization to work in the US.      Schedule: M-F 8 AM – 5 PM (Subject to change) 

 Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate the implementation and conduct of research projects ensuring adherence to research protocol requirements. This includes timely coordination and/or completion and communication of regulatory documents, the development source documents, reports Serious Adverse Events as they occur and completion of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and sponsor forms in accordance with GCP guidelines. 
  • Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, outside study personnel and central research administration offices to assist in protocol adherence, prescreening and enrollment of eligible patients, as well as safety questions. 
  • Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for patient care.
  • Assesses research participant as whole patient; completes nursing assessment, performs medical histories, review of systems for research patients, documents findings in research subject records. Notifies physician/Principal Investigator of abnormal findings, adverse events, etc.
  • Performs telephone triage of potential patients. 
  • Performs nursing procedures and treatments as delegated by Principal Investigator.
  • Adheres to and evaluates Apex Clinical Research policies & procedures.
  • Assists with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical research protocol.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP. 
  • Directs, coordinates and ensures research patients receive all required care and procedures, according to protocol plan. 
  • Participates in education, research, and performance improvement activities.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of research protocol to coordinate the comprehensive and compliant execution of assigned protocols. 
  • Assists with preparation for audits and response to audits.
  • Maintains professional relationships, including frequent and open effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Assists with the development of training and educational material for assigned research protocols.  Provides and documents education as needed.
  • Develops protocol specific checklists. 
  • Educates the patient/family and team on the research protocol, including MOA on study drug.
  • Conducts and documents the informed consent process, according to FDA guidelines and GCP.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Minimum four years clinical experience, two years research experience
  • Demonstrates basic computer proficiency.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-directed with demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision at offsite facilities.
  • Displays a thorough understanding of the research process and terminology.
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of federal regulations and good clinical practice (GCP).
  • Meets clinical competency requirements. 
  • Maintains current knowledge in specialty area and/or equivalent.
  • Participates in process improvement activities.
  • Within 90 days of hire, must successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research.
  • Continually demonstrates competency with defined requirements for the position as established by Apex Clinical Research Center. 
  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN). 
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be presented upon hire. 

Preferred:

  • CCRC or equivalent
  • Prior Supervisory experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
