Long Term Care Ombudsman
Program Supervisor

PURPOSE:
The Ombudsman protects the rights, dignity, safety, and quality of life of residents in long- term care facilities. As advocates, Ombudsman assist residents to address and resolve issues to their satisfaction. In promoting communication between parties who may disagree, Ombudsman support both resident rights as well as the sincere effort of providers who wish to deliver high quality care in their facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receive, investigate, mediate and resolve complaints regarding long term care on behalf of persons residing in long term care facilities.
2. Make a minimum of quarterly, unannounced visits to all long term care facilities in their designated service area.
3. Provide information on aging and long term care issues through public presentations and consultations.
4. Document complaints, consultations, training and presentations using the approved Ombudsman data entry system.
5. Assist State Long Term Care Ombudsman in identifying and recommending changes in public policy, regulations and/or laws to improve the quality of life for long term care residents.
6. Implement the Ombudsman program in accordance with the ICOA Program Manual.
7. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Education:
1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and;
2. One to two years related experience and/or training or;
3. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Condition of Employment:
1. Employee must successfully complete a state criminal background check if Idaho residency is more than three (3) years, a federal background if less than three (3) years.
2. Employee must have reliable transportation to be used during working hours and ability to travel throughout the 10-county service area.
3. Must have a valid Idaho driver’s license, a good driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance.

Reads, analyzes, and interprets general business procedures. Writes reports and business correspondence. Communicates effectively both in oral and written form. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from diverse groups. Must possess active listening and interviewing skills; giving full attention to what another person is saying, taking time to understand, ask appropriate questions.
Reasoning Ability:
Apply reasonable understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems and situations involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and develop and implement solutions. Prioritize work time, sequence and research information to complete work assignments. Interpret different kinds of work situations and make decisions as to next step or draw conclusions. Must be able to multi-task projects and duties.
Computer and Equipment Skills:
Proficiency in the use of computer and all common office machines required. Ability to work with Microsoft Windows and Office or databases specific to the AAA. Adequate typing skills are necessary for this position.
