About the opportunity:
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Environmental Scientist with experience in natural resource management, biological studies, NEPA planning for our Colorado offices (Broomfield, Ft. Collins). We are seeking a candidate who is looking to continue a long-term consulting career that combines high-level technical expertise, business acumen, project management skills, and the potential for increased leadership. Responsibilities may include leading or supporting small to mid-sized projects, field surveys, natural resource planning, writing technical reports, NEPA Planning, project permitting, project construction and maintenance support, and leading and/or coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team. It is anticipated that low to moderate travel will be required for the position.

This is a permanent full-time, regular position, reporting to one of SWCA’s Senior Project Managers out of our Broomfield or Fort Collins, Colorado offices. Highly qualified remote (distributed) candidates will also be seriously considered.

What you will accomplish:
  • Further develop project management and technical lead skills on a variety of environmental or natural resources projects, including managing small projects independently.
  • Prepare as a primary author, or oversee the writing of others, for reports and permit documents, and conduct quality assurance/quality control for a variety of project types and sizes, which may include renewable energy, energy transmission, oil & gas, mining, or a variety of other sectors.
  • Conduct, or oversee others conducting a variety of environmental or natural resources tasks and studies including regulation review, schedule development, development risk analysis, biological and environmental assessments, project construction and maintenance support, and technical reports and evaluations documentation.
  • Organize, review, and analyze field data; write technical reports and permit applications; conduct subject matter expert review for state, local, municipal and county regulations, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Clean Water Act, and other resource planning/permitting relevant in the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Lead or work closely with a project team to complete biological resource management tasks.
  • Take initiative and resolve issues in an independent manner.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities; and,
  • Work closely with SWCA’s other resource scientists, planners, on natural and cultural resource projects throughout the company.
Experience and qualifications for success:
Required
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in biological surveys and/or resource management in either the public or private sector, including 2 years managing natural resources or related projects.
  • Experience leading and/or working with scientists, planners, engineers, contractors, and agency specialists.
  • Experience leading technical report writing related to natural resources.
  • Ability to work as member of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner.

Preferred
  • Experience in leading reports and permits for variety of renewable energy and/or energy transmission project types and sizes.
  • Experience with client account management and/or business development success, including proposal writing and budget/scope development.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA), we are disclosing a good faith estimate of the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado.

In Colorado, an employee in this position can expect an annual rate between $75,000.00 and $105,000.00, depending on experience, geographic locations, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Employees in this position are eligible for consideration for SWCA’s annual bonus program, which provides awards based on individual and organizational performance.
