Description

A nursing student employed for the purpose of giving patient care under the direction and supervision of an assigned registered nurse.

Required qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: Current enrollment in and satisfactory completion of all but the last year (3 quarters/2 semesters) of a Washington State Nursing Commission approved and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). BSN program preferred.
  • Coursework/Training: Nursing program education and practice in the scope of care for the patient population on the unit of hire (i.e. pediatrics, med/surg, OB, etc.) The nursing technician will provide SMC written documentation by their nursing program of the specific nursing functions/tasks they are able to perform.
  • Continued enrollment in a Washington State Nursing Commission approved nursing program and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). This enrollment must be maintained throughout employment as a Nursing Technician. This enrollment includes periods of scheduled vacation and holiday time. Official enrollment does not include any of the following: leave of absence from a nursing program; withdrawal (temporary or permanent) from a nursing program; enrollment in prerequisite course study or courses offered through the department of nursing or allied health programs with no current official enrollment into an approved nursing program; and students awaiting re-enrollment into a nursing program.
