Dietary Aide

The Job
The dietary aide supports the effective operation of the community’s kitchen by maintaining properly sanitized and a sufficient stock of dishes and assist the cook with meal prep to ensure the orderly flow of the kitchen systems.

Responsibilities
- Prepares therapeutic desserts and salads as required
- Serves meals in the health center pantries
- Sets up tables in the health center dining room(s) and breaks them down after the meals
- Transports hot and cold foods to and from the health center pantries
- Transports all required non-food items to and from the health center pantries
- Washes silver, glass, china in dish machines in pantries as per regulation
- Provides health center snacks and supplements per diet orders
- Maintains stock and sanitation levels in coffee and juice machines in dining rooms
- Sets tables and maintains work stations in proper order
- Takes order, provides service and requested items both graciously and courteously
- Clears dishes from tables during and after meal service
- Answers pertinent questions about menu items
- Ensures that orders match Physician’s diet orders
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, perform simple arithmetic, and understand measurements and conversions
- Previous experience in nursing home food service preferred, but not required
- Ability to plan, organize and set up trays and plates in accordance with diet orders and interpret specifications and standards
- Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisor and peers. Requires empathy for the elderly
