What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Mentor (PRN) position at Synergy Services Inc?
Synergy Services mission is to strengthen the individual, family and community through prevention, crisis intervention, shelter, counseling, advocacy and education. We have need for a Peer Mentor (PRN) to help with summer programming between the Domestic Violence Center and the Children's Center.
Flexible hours that may include evenings and weekends.
Selected candidate must be between the ages of 18-20 years of age
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Provides peer mediation services for youth participating in residential programs.
Models safe, respectful boundaries.
Provides support for residential crisis line.
Facilitates group discussions and house meetings with basic understanding of assertive, non threatening intervention.
Interacts with youth in an effective healthy manner in implementing daily program activities.
Participate and provide leadership in weekly STOP group
Assist with Safe Place/School collaborations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma preferred. Prior interaction with this client base preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Drivers license
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work with computer software, are including Windows, Word for Windows and Excel.

Requires a strong desire to increase leadership and advocacy skills. Must have the ability to interact with youth in a structured and creative manner. Must exhibit sensitivity to diversity issues. Must pass a physical and drug screen, and an abuse/neglect screening.
Flexible evening and weekend hours. Selected candidate must be between the ages of 18-20 years of age, pass a background check and Family Care Safety Registry screening, fingerprint screen, drug screen and have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
