Global Aerospace Parts Manufacturer is in search of an Automation Manager to join their growing organization
SUMMARY:
The Automation Manager is responsible for leading and supporting automation projects that will increase the efficiency of manufacturing operations, through managing, designing, improving, and engineering efficient automation systems and making process improvements using advanced technologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage robotics and automation projects successfully utilizing MS Project or similar PM tools, including; planning, designing, executing, monitoring, controlling and closure of projects.
- Actively identify new opportunities for process improvement as well as, identifying opportunities for automation within current manufacturing processes and systems, to achieve increased efficiency and/or cost savings.
- Perform analysis of alternatives using cost/benefit analysis and objective criteria to select and prioritize projects.
- Develop and implement long-term automation strategies utilizing direct reports, internal customers, and external Suppliers and resources.
- Develop, write, and implement Capital Projects in accordance with the company’s Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure that the necessary resources are in place; people, equipment, tooling, materials, etc. to meet or exceed planned objectives.
- Responsible for directing and managing Automation team; provides the necessary tools, training, knowledge, and support to accomplish business objectives and success in their position.
- Responsible for implementing Company Policies and guidelines as prescribed by the Company. Ensure that assignments, tasks assigned, concerns affecting quality of the product, and established agreed upon objectives are completed timely.
- Perform personnel functions; interview, hire, train, motivate, supervise, reward, and coach/counsel for improved performance, identify/develop high potential employees, conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary action and recommend compensation increases within company guidelines.
- Implement, execute, and maintain training plan for assigned Personnel.
- Develop and maintain vision, strategy, and key objectives in line with the Company’s goals and having the leadership skills to “lead by example” the execution efforts against these key objectives.
- Organize process data using tools such as 8D, 5S, Kaizen, Lean, Six-Sigma (DMAIC), VSM, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to reduce process variation and improve quality and throughput.
- Coordinate with and through support teams and/or Suppliers to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable time frame, scope, and budget.
- Research equipment or component needs and makes recommendations, sources competitive prices, delivery times, or ongoing operational costs; initiates request for proposals (RFP’s).
- Collaborate with production management to analyze data and site metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT:
- Makes decisions based on what is best for the Company, the Shareholders, and Employees.
- Ensure responses to internal and external customers are complete and timely. Take appropriate corrective actions to change content or timeliness of response as necessary.
- Lead Employees within the established Company rules (Action Plans, Performance Management Systems, Legal requirements, etc.) to maintain a positive working environment building a culture of accountability and productivity.
- Conduct all business activities with the highest ethical standards. Ensures decision making is objective avoiding any kind of conflict of interest or the appearance of conflict of interest.
- Exemplify Company guiding principles in decision making.
- Embrace and implement the Company Health, Safety and Environmental culture and practices.
- Works collaboratively with internal and external customers.
- Participate and ensure implementation of Continuous Improvement culture and apply Six Sigma and Lean concepts to product development and departmental management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage Automation Engineers, Maintenance Technicians, and any other directly assigned staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- A Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline
- 5 years management experience in automation manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to successfully manage large and complex hardware/software automation and robotics integration projects
- Proven ability to lead effectively in a diverse environment
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, operation management, process improvement, and industrialization
- Knowledge of vision inspection systems, preferably Keyence, Cognex, or Fanuc
- knowledge of 3D CAD software, mainframe computer systems and advanced spreadsheet utilization skills along with proficiency in MS Office and MS Project
