While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employees may be required to work in a train yard with live rails. The employee is frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and adjustments to all systems, subsystems, and components of an electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic nature.
- Inspection, repair, and maintenance of train car subsystems like propulsion system, brakes system, pneumatic system, door operations, couplers, structural system, signaling, onboard circuit boards, communication, electrical & lighting systems.
- Inspection, repair, and maintenance of wayside subsystems like power rail, guide structure, signaling, guideway switches, communication, electrical & power distribution system.
- Inspection, repair, and maintenance of passenger station subsystems like automatic doors, access doors, signaling, and control systems.
- Trouble-shoot complex systems and components to identify problems or failures.
- Use various electronic and mechanical test equipment to diagnose/isolate faults.
- Use of calibrated tools, special tools, and diagnostic aides
- Install/repair wiring assemblies.
- Follow and maintain documentation standards.
- Assist in continuous improvement programs on periodic inspection, repairs, maintenance, and schedules to reduce out-of-service time.
- Participate in safety awareness programs, periodic training, and other safety-related activities.
- Know and utilize safe work practices and assure that others working in the area are also working in a safe manner.
- The Maintenance Technician is required to follow established procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Proficient in English
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of combined mechanical and/or electrical work experience in a relevant field (Formal education may be substituted for experience)
- Valid Class C Driver’s License
- Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, subsystems, and components.
- Basic mechanical and electrical maintenance concepts
- Use of hand tools and power tools
- Use of basic electrical and mechanical test equipment
- Read and interpret manuals, diagrams, schematics, and parts breakdown.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively
- Ability to follow procedures and safe work practices
- Ability to document work on written forms and/or computerized forms.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and operate independently as well as part of a team
- Successfully complete written and practical assessments
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without difficulty
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
Additional Preferred Qualification
- Associate degree (A.S.) in a related mechanical or technical discipline and/or Vocational Training/Certification in a related discipline (Previous work experience may be recognized in lieu of formal education)
- Skilled in the diagnosis of electronic and mechanical systems
- Experience working with PLCs and Relay logic systems.
- Ability to use various computer applications for reports, shift communications, inventory control, etc.
- Hands-on experience working with AC and DC power and control systems
- Experience with HVAC systems, metal fabrication, or machining would be considered a strong asset
- Able to communicate in multiple languages.
