Job Description
We are currently seeking a SQL Server DBA for a 6 month contract to perm position. This is a hybrid role working onsite in Columbia, MD 1 day a week every other week. Local candidates to the DMV.

This role is for a solid mid-level SQL Server DBA, someone with 4-5 years of experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing maintenance, operational support, and troubleshooting for SQL Server databases. Responsible for maintaining reliability, stability, and data integrity of the databases, and creating methods for gathering and reporting on this data. Develop and administer methods for backup, integrity, and security of SQL databases. Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve issues with databases and database servers. Develop, review, and optimize stored procedures, reports, and SSIS packages. Create troubleshooting and procedure documentation. Additional responsibilities at this level will include addressing escalations from junior DBAs, mentoring, and assisting with IS team project deliverables as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with gathering and delivering weekly metrics and stat reporting.
- Draft and submit requests for changes as needed.
- Review stored procedures, reports, SSIS packages, and databases themselves to ensure optimal performance, including index maintenance, performance tuning, optimization of database settings, and more.
- Create stored procedures for recurring tasks.
- Author documents and guidelines for tasks/projects as well as update existing documents as necessary.
- Act as a point of contact for IS teams, evaluate and respond to incoming ticket requests.
- Monitor performance of database systems resources and recommend solutions to issues.
- Monitor and maintain database storage resources.
- Proactively monitor and respond to MS SQL database alerts, assist with alert definition and creation.
- Administer SQL Server installs, upgrades and migrations.
- Ensure the safety and availability of data through backup and recovery/restore procedures.
- Perform database refreshes as needed.
- Research database technical issues and propose/implement preventive actions.
- Assist in implementation and management of database security.
- Assist application developers in their database environments.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration
- Working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the database administration field required.
- Knowledge of SQL 2005 - SQL 2014 preferred, experience with SQL 2016 - SQL 2019 required.
- Working knowledge MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems preferred.
- Working knowledge of T-SQL Scripting/Programming and optimization preferred.
- Experience with any of the following technologies is preferred:
- VMWare Administration
- SQL monitoring tools, such as Quest Spotlight, Apex SQL Monitor, SentryOne SQL Sentry
- Replication, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, or other SQL high-availability solutions
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
