Distance Education Instructional Aide – Full-time Substitute (6 months)

DEFINITION
Under direction, performs a variety of instructional support tasks to support distance education needs of faculty, staff and students. Performs routine clerical recordkeeping and reporting; performs related duties as assigned. May include working in a laboratory environment off-site requiring more independence and accountability; may provide instructional assistance in a wide range of subject areas to students which may include limited-English or non-English speaking students.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in the classification, however, employee may perform other related duties not listed and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by the employee.
- Support faculty, staff and students with distance education needs
- Assist students in the proper use of computers and other tools appropriate for use in a classroom or learning lab
- Utilize web, mobile instructional technologies, Banner (INB), Cougar Tracks (SSB) and Canvas (CMS) for Distance Education related functions
- Perform administrator level technology support for Course Management System (CMS)
- Work with programs such as Camtasia, Publisher, Excel, Word and more
- Assist in directing student-workers with their workload and task assigned as needed
- Process and track purchase orders as needed
- Develop sets of instructions for faculty and students on the use of instructional technology tools
- Perform related duties as assigned
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree or equivalent
- Beginning level experience using Microsoft Excel
- Intermediate level experience using Microsoft Word
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in an office setting
- One (1) year experience with our current instructional technologies Banner and Canvas
- Six (6) months experience using a Course Management System in an administrative role
Special Licenses/Certifications
The following may be required for some positions:
- Valid California Driver license
- Acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier
Ability to
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and Taft College faculty and staff
- Ability to work at a desk, a conference table, or in meetings of various configurations
- Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
- Ability to see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules, policies, other printed matter, and observing students
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation
- Ability to reach in all directions
Working Conditions
Assignments are typically 40 hours per week and 12 months per year. May require over-time, holiday or weekend work to meet deadlines. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve traveling to district or county offices to complete assignments or for research, workshops, training and/or meetings.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for the position is Range 17 on the 2020-2021 Classified Salary Schedule, with a range of $19.27-$25.72 per hour.
